Mainframe DB2 DBA At Barclays (TB 2018)

Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Job Description

Job Title : Mainframe DB2 DBA

Job Location : Chennai

DB2 DBA working in Mainframe Infrastructure team to provide technical support, maintenance and implementation of change to the Banks LIVE critical DB2 databases and to ensure Database capacity, performance and availability. Changes handled include planned and emergency work. Other tasks include Incident and Problem Resolution via Service Now, Disaster Recovery activities and some Project related developments. Expectation to continuously review processes with the intention to streamline / automate as much as possible.

What will you be doing?

Project implementation 60%

  • Acts as a key contact point for all project related queries including build, testing and implementation
  • Leads in the completion of testing for projects and provide technical explanations of findings
  • Supports less experienced colleagues through the entire project process from testing through to implementation
  • Able to understand and articulate technical issues to a non-Mainframe/non-technical audience
  • Provides comprehensive technical verbal updates of project status to team and produce non-technical written updates for project managers and business.
  • Represents Mainframe area at project meetings and provide any inputs to help plan projects.
  • Provides architecture solutions to the project which are in line with new technologies and able to communicate benefits of it

Change/Incident/Problem Management/Support 40%

  • Able to work as a consultant for all change implementation processes, challenges other colleagues changes by sharing personal experience. Clearly identifies the risk and impact if the change goes wrong. Plans and leads major implementations.
  • Proactive identification of possible major incidents. Provide s the governance, technical authority, leadership and direction necessary for the resolution of technical issues.
  • Provides input into complex changes, teaching colleagues from own methodologies
  • Proactively delivers on activities and tasks assigned to them within the SLA to avoid any missed deadlines
  • Provides in-depth verbal and/or written updates to customers on change progress
  • Provides expert guidance on the change process for team and projects
  • Analyses complex changes and ensure the more effective resolution is selected to resolve
  • Assists with the resolution of complex problems and/or incidents
  • Communication skills are essential to ensure team and kept fully up to date with any ongoing incidents which could affect service
  • Uses own initiative to make decisions on how best the resolve incidents and/or problems to mitigate impact on service
  • Understanding customer needs and priorities to providing high quality services. Has considerable latitude for making decisions within the team. Well known and recognised by local leadership team.
  • Provides 24*7 operational support (on-call)
  • Supplier management of internal and external infrastructure
  • Managing and delivering service improvements
  • Implement standard customer solutions

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • DB2 connect, Data Studio,etc).
  • Deep IT security awareness
  • Able to communicate at all levels
  • Excellent understanding of Mainframe operating system tools: - TSO, JCL, REXX, SQL etc.
  • Good understanding of the following: - IMS, CICS, MQ, Automation
  • Previous experience in Assembler and COBOL programming languages (desirable)
  • Good understanding of IT operating systems and hardware
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Previous experience working with such tools: Data Studio, DB2 CA, DB2 connect and IDAA. (desirable)
  • Several years practical experience working as a DB2 Database Administrator
