Environmental Field Technician At AECOM

Location: Burnaby, British Columbia

Job Description

The Environment team in Burnaby is looking for an Environmental Field Technician to assist with groundwater monitoring programs, environmental drilling investigations and remediation activities. The successful candidate will be working within a team of other technicians and junior engineers under the supervision of professional engineers and geologists. The position will involve assisting in all aspects of environmental projects including proposal preparation, laboratory procurement, subcontractor coordination, desk studies, field work, and report preparation.

Minimum Requirements

+ High School diploma

+ 2+ years of relevant experience

+ Groundwater Monitoring - installation, purging and sample collection from monitoring wells

+ Drilling - environmental drilling (sonic drilling experience is an asset), ground disturbance procedures, soil description and monitoring well installation

+ Soil sampling - field screening, soil sample collection procedures, sample selection

+ Vapor sampling - installation, purging and sampling from soil vapour probes

+ Field notes - taking organized and details field notes, recording observations

+ Safety - leading and participating in field meetings, oversight of subcontractors, contribute to and following safe work practices, developing/following/implementing safety plans and a day to day basis, recognizing hazards

+ Excellent attention to detail and a thorough approach to work

+ Strong communication skills

+ Ability to learn new tasks

+ Flexible and hard working

+ Willing to travel within the province/country for work

+ Certificate: Valid and unrestricted driver's license

+ Technical report writing - using spreadsheets, word processing and standard office software, able to compile and interpret field and analytical data into accurate and comprehensive summary reports

Preferred Qualifications

+ Diploma in Environmental Technology/Geological Technology or similar is highly desired

+ Prefer experience in the field near oil rigs collecting samples
