Database Developer / Programmer - Contract At AECOM

Location: Calgary, Alberta

Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Database Developer / Programmer Analyst to join our team at our Calgary, Alberta location. This is a Temporary position based in Calgary with 25% travel required for the role.

Accepting applicants who are willing to work as a Direct Hire (Staff) or Contractor.

The Database Developer / Programmer Analyst shall play a critical role in the delivery of timely and effective business solutions by engaging in all aspects of Software Development Lifecycle.

Responsibilities:
+ Partners with HR, providing guidance and direction on technology solutions to support enterprise programs and processes. Reviews current and future functionality/emerging technology, analyzing its impact to business processes.

+ Design, develop and implement feature-rich, responsive web applications through integration of modern front-end frameworks, third party commercial UI toolkits, web SMS platform and backend services in a cloud-based infrastructure

+ Produce high quality, well-tested application codes with attention to functionality, security, performance and user experience

+ Work collaboratively with stakeholders to elicit, understand and document business requirements and acceptance criteria through interviews and produce documentation through User Stories, Use Cases, and UML diagrams

+ Translate functional specifications and other Business Analysis artefacts into both high level and detailed design specifications

+ Ensure that all designs and architecture of in-house developed systems strictly adhere to industry best practices standards

+ Identify and document areas of improvement to both system functionality and workflow

Qualifications:
+ Ability to demonstrate effective application of object-oriented software development.

+ Thorough understanding and practical experience in all elements of the software development lifecycle

+ Thorough understanding of development design patterns and coding best practices

+ Advanced application development and deployment experience with cloud infrastructure (Azure or AWS).

+ Strong experience in modern front-end frameworks such as Vue, Angular (not AngularJS) or .Net Blazor

+ Strong experience in designing, developing and consuming Web APIs using .Net

+ Practical experience as a member of or leading a team using Agile development techniques (Scrum or Kanban).

+ Strong knowledge of designing complex database models, advanced stored procedure scripting using SQL Server database backend

Minimum Requirements

+ Bachelor's Degree with Computer Science or Software Engineering + 8 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

+ Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and can clearly articulate complex messages and requirements.

+ Demonstrates energy, commitment on self-development, and works towards continuous improvement.

+ Able to analyze and develop solutions to complex problems related to employees, processes, systems and organizations.

+ Expresses ideas, exercises sound judgment, and is and effective listener.

+ Excellent organization skills, self-motivated, and detailed oriented.

+ Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities, as needed

+ Strong team player must be able to build collaborative relationships with others, ability to work with team members in person and in remote settings.

+ Ability to provide exceptional customer service, internally and externally.

+ Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to adapt to frequent change

Preferred Qualifications

+ Practical experience with source code management systems (Git.) and CI/CD pipelines.

+ Knowledge in Azure SQL is highly desirable.

+ Knowledge on integration of Web SMS platform (Texting System) in a web application is a definite plus.

+ Experience with commercial third party UI tools such as RAD Telerik .
